Page Layout

There are four main divisions on a page (in normal mode and wide screen). These are (1) the header or banner, (2) the main content or body, (3) the sidebar or margin, and (4) the footer or page end.

The banner, sidebar, and footer have a lot of information about the page, with many links that help you move intelligently from page to page. It's worth spending a little time looking at how the entire navigation system works. It's fairly intuitive and self-explanatory but it has many features to explore. The help page outlines most of these.

The Site Structure

There are more than a thousand pages on this site. Obviously the site needs a sensible structure. So what is it? Let's start at the top and work downward...

• Level 1 —At the top level, of course, is the entire site
• Level 2 —The site is divided into topical series
• Level 3 —A series contains a set of lessons
• Level 4 —A lesson may be divided into parts

Each page “knows” exactly where it belongs —which lesson it is part of and what the other parts are, what the next and previous lessons are, and what series the lessons belong to. The page will present you with tabs and icons that can take you to another “PART” of a lesson, or to the “NEXT” lesson, or “LIST” all the lessons in the series with a synopsis of each lesson. These links are in the banner, sidebar, and footer including the first few icons in Pick-a-box.

“I can't see any parts”

Often a page will not show active “part” tabs. This is not a malfunction. There are three reasons why active part tabs are not shown.

• The page may be a service such as an information or index page. Only lesson pages are presented in parts.
• The lesson may be a short one, or one that does not suit division into parts, and so it is presented in only one part. In this case there are no active part tabs.
• The lesson may not yet be divided into parts, and until it is no active part tabs will appear.

Cross Referencing

Although simplybible.com is organized in this top-down vertical manner, you are not required to step up and down the structure if you don't wish to. Another principle in the way the site is put together is that you can move “horizontally” between pages located in different series and lessons but which are related in what they discuss. Each page will have relevant links in the sidebar and in Pick-a-box for this purpose.

Better still, the search engine simplybibleFinder (SiFi) is directly accessible on every page. It is not the slightest interested in vertical structure, but in the association of ideas. Give it topics to search, and the engine will list selected pages from all over the site under topical headings.
